Music is in Jaime Bolipata’s genes.

Bolipata (Jed to friends and fellow musicians performing with him during the Laurel Festival of the Arts in Jim Thorpe) began playing the piano when he was 8 years old.

He was born in the Philippines, the grandson of a concert master for the Manila Symphony Orchestra.

“That’s where the music in the family comes from,” Bolipata said of the grandfather who died years before he (Bolipata) took up the piano.

“He was present even though he wasn’t alive. His picture was everywhere. My mother always talked about him.

Bolipata said his mother was adamant that her six children be exposed to music. Bolipata focused on the piano.

“I took to it very naturally,” he said yesterday during a lunch break that followed a morning of open rehearsal at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe.
